Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" takes flight with new teaser

Japanese anime studio Sunrise continues its spin-off of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.

Directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and written by Mari Okada, the series is set in a new timeline outside of the epic "Space Century" arc of Mobile Suit Gundam and will begin airing Sunday night, October 4 on MBS/TBS and affiliate stations throughout Japan. Sunrise announced details of the show yesterday via a live stream event in Japan. The show takes place 300 years after the mega-war between Earth and Mars failed to end the power struggle, especially over the Martian colony of Kreis. [The show's heroine, Coudelia, and her private security force, Kreis Guard Security, led by Mikazuki Orgas and the coup-winning Olga Itsuka, set fire to mobile war suits and blow up all sorts of things in the name of fighting terrorism and intergalactic takeovers. Of course, the fine military and political details of the Mobile Suit Gundam series have often taken a back seat to the action scenes, but they seem to be well represented in the teaser for "Iron Blood Orphans."

Character design was by Michinori Chiba, based on an original idea by manga artist Yu Ito, with mechanical design by Naohiro Washio, Kanetake Ebikawa, Ippei Yukitake, Kenji Teraoka, and Tamotsu Shinohara.
