What to look forward to at the Stuttgart International Animated Film Festival this month

The Stuttgart International Animation Film Festival (ITFS) will hold its 30th edition from April 25-30.

The organizers have been announcing the details of the program for several months now, so we decided to pick out the five highlights from this year's lineup that we are most excited about. The full program is here.

ITFS will spotlight South African animation this year. The festival will feature a number of activities in cooperation with South African events and animation companies. Among them are:

Stuttgart's highest honorary award will go to Latvian artist Signe Baumane, whose films at the festival include The Witch and the Cow (1991), Little Shoes (1993), Tiger Gold (1995), and Love Story (1998), ITFS will also screen Baumane's two feature films, Rocks in My Pockets (2014) and My Love Affair with Marriage (2022). The Trickstar Honor Award will be presented to Baumanné at the Trickstar Professional Awards ceremony on April 26.

The Walt Disney Company will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year, and the ITFS will be part of the party. The festival will feature a Disney short film program, open-air movie talks, a master class by legendary Disney character animator Andreas Deja, Disney EMEA Creative Directors Shamik Majumdar and Orion Ross Roundtable and more will be held.

Animovie is an international feature film competition held in Stuttgart. This year's competition is divided into two sections:

Animovie Kids Feature Length Competition

This year's short competition will feature films exploring themes such as migration and trauma, sexuality and gender, environment The short films in this year's competition are international in nature and explore themes such as immigration, trauma, sexuality, gender, the environment, social anxiety and loneliness.
