Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, explains why he will end the show after 2 seasons.

The quirky Disney XD series Gravity Falls will end with an hour-long series finale that will air sometime in the coming months.

"The first thing you need to know is that the show hasn't been canceled," the creator of the frequently flanneled series (and the famous comic brew fan) Alex Hirsch wrote on Tumblr yesterday. "It's over. This is 100% my choice and that's what I decided a very long time ago. I've always designed gravity Falls to be a finite series about 1 grand summer - a series with a beginning, a middle, and an end. There are so many shows that go on and on until they lose their original spark, or a mystery that was canceled before they got a chance for a payoff.however,

The final and 2nd episode, Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape from Reality, will premiere this Monday. Hirsch promised fans that these last episodes will lead to a finale that answers all but a few questions about the mystery of the show

"I wanted to have a mystery that had a real answer to Gravity Falls, an adventure that had a real climax, and I wanted to have so much fun." I had a real conclusion for a character who cared about the ending," writes a 30-year-old CalArts graduate. "This was a very unusual thing on TV, a pretty big experiment, and Disney was very supportive on their side," he said. I know that hits are rare in this business and it's hard to let go of one of them, so I'm so grateful that this company had a vision of getting the show started (and ended) the way I always wanted."

Disney XD," Alex Hirsch said, "has a stunning plan for gravity Falls stories and characters, and through 40 episodes and 17 short stories, he and a team of outstanding writers, artists and actors Alex made the decision to conclude the story at this point, and while we are disappointed, we all know that the world of Gravity Falls

Hersh left the door open for a future gravity Falls revival,"[J]ust finished the story I wanted to tell, so doesn't necessarily mean we won't see the Big Dipper, Mabel, & Stan again. That means that this chapter is closed, and that I, at least for now, have finished telling their story personally.

He hasn't announced a new project, but has encouraged fans to follow him on Twitter for future news.
