HBO Max acquires streaming rights to Studio Ghibli films

HBO Max, the upcoming streaming service from AT&T-owned Warnermedia, announced today that it will offer Studio Ghibli films when the service launches in spring 2020.

This marks the first time that a Japanese Studio Ghibli film has been licensed for streaming, and the company has signed a deal with GKIDS, an independent distributor with U.S. rights to Ghibli's library.
