Annecy, the Cesar Award-winning film Chicken Foreigner! will open in limited release in the U.S. on April 5.

Fresh off winning the French Cesar Award for Best Animated Feature Film, "Chicken for Linda! has finally been given a U.S. theatrical release date of April 5, 2024.

The beloved family film is directed by husband and wife team Chiara Malta and Sebastian Rodenbach, who have worked together on numerous live-action and animated films in the past. Marta is best known for her 2019 live-action feature "Simple Women," which she co-wrote with Rodenbach. Rodenbach is a renowned animation filmmaker who won the Annecy Jury Prize in 2016 for her feature debut, The Woman Without Hands.

"Chicken for Linda! is produced by Dolce Vita Films and Miu Productions and financed by 3 Cinéma de France, the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and the Hauts-de-France region. The official synopsis of the film is as follows:

Paulette feels guilty for having wronged her daughter Linda and is willing to do anything to make it up to her. Linda immediately asks for a dish of chicken and peppers, which reminds her of a dish her father used to cook for her. But as a general strike closes stores all over town and pushes people out into the streets, this innocent request soon turns into an outrageous event, and Paulette does everything in her power to keep her promise and find chicken for Linda.

Before winning the French Academy César last weekend, the film was a huge festival success, premiering out of competition in the Acid section at last year's Cannes Film Festival before heading to Annecy, where it won the Crystal Award for Best Feature Film. It also won Best Feature Film at the Manchester Animation Festival and Animation is Film in L.A., and screened in competition in Ottawa and Turin.

Reviews praised the vibrant, energetic visuals and the charming mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the story.

GKIDS will present "Chicken for Linda! at the Angelika Film Center in New York City on April 5, at the Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles on April 12, and nationwide in its original French language version on April 15.
