Netflix Releases Trailer for "Arcane," Premieres November 6

Netflix has released the full trailer for "Arcane," an animated series based on the multiplayer online game "League of Legends."

The first three episodes of the series will focus on the beginnings of two sisters, Jinx and Vi, and will begin on Saturday, November 6 at 7 p.m. PT; the three-episode second act will begin on November 13 and the third act will debut on November 20.

The series will premiere simultaneously on Tencent Video in China. The streamer's parent company, Tencent, owns League of Legends and its maker, Riot Games.

"Arcane is a story of duality," says series co-creator Alex Yee. The characters are divided into two parts of a city, each with opposite yet complementary values and opportunities. Each has its own strengths and flaws. In your own story you are the hero, but in someone else's story you are the villain."

According to Riot's description:

Arcane dives into the delicate balance between the rich city of Piltover and the seedy underworld of Zaun. Known throughout Runeterra as the "city of progress," it is home to many brilliant minds. But the birth of Hextech, which allows any human to manipulate magical energy, threatens that balance.

The game makers state that the series is "designed to stand on its own," but the trailer suggests that without knowledge of "League of Legends," "Arcane" may be a puzzling and frustrating experience for viewers. [League of Legends is the most watched video game in the world. League of Legends is the most watched video game in the world. The game's annual championship tournament has attracted more than 100 million online viewers in the past, and the tournament's highest simultaneous viewership in 2020 was 46 million; if Netflix's premiere is viewed by even half that many people, it will be a huge win for streamers.

Arcane was developed in-house at Riot, independently financed, and animated by Paris-based Fortiche.

Arcane's English voice cast includes Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Kevin Alejandro (Jayce), Jason Spisak (Silco), Ella Purnell (Jinx), Toks Olagundoye (Mel), J.B Blanc (Vander), and Harry Lloyd (Viktor).
