Sony Pictures wins Poland's Oscar nomination for The Peasants.

Sony Pictures Classics (SPC) has acquired North American, Latin American, and Middle Eastern rights to The Peasants, the second animated feature from "Loving Vincent" creators DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, a Polish Oscar-winning international feature film, rights in Australia/New Zealand.

According to SPC and the filmmaking duo, the distributor will submit "The Peasants" for this year's animated feature awards and push it through awards season, but no theatrical release date was disclosed in the acquisition announcement.

This is SPC's second European animated feature this year, following Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal's "They Shot the Piano Player." Both films are from directors whose previous feature films were nominated for Academy Awards.
