Bob Spitt: We Do Not Like People" Finds U.S. Distributor, Nominated for Academy Awards

One of the most innovative and well-received indie animated films of the year is coming to U.S. shores, as L.A.'s Outsider Pictures presents Bob Spit: The North American release opens December 15 at Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood.

Inspired by the work of acclaimed Brazilian cartoonist Angeli, this stop-motion film has a meta premise worthy of Charlie Kaufman. The main character, Bob, lives in a post-apocalyptic desert, which is actually Angeli's mind. The artist is determined to kill his character, but Bob decides to fight back and confront his creator. The Outsider has a trailer:

Earlier this year, "Bob Spit" was selected as the best film in Annecy's Contrechamps section, which focuses on experimental and offbeat films. It then went on to win Best Feature Film at the Ottawa International Animated Film Festival, becoming the first Latin American film to do so.

"Bob Spit" is the feature debut of Cesar Cabral, who previously directed Angeli the Killer, a stop-motion series based on Angeli's work. The film is produced by Koala Films, with Ivan Melo serving as producer.

"The proposal for the series was to breathe new life into the world of Chiclete com Banana, a magazine that was very successful in the 1980s and 1990s," Cabral told Variety, which first broke the news of the acquisition.

"In the film, Bob is portrayed as an older, tougher punk guy, like Iggy Pop in that comic book.

The full list of animated feature films nominated for next year's Academy Awards will be finalized soon. We will inform you as soon as it is determined.
