Animated movies and series coming to Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max in January 2021

Welcome to the Monthly Streaming Animation Guide.

We have selected shows and movies, both new and old, that will be available on Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max in January (US). Included are fully animated and hybrid films, as well as documentaries related to animation. A new roundup will be released each month.

Carmen San Diego Netflix's long-running edutainment franchise's well-received fourth and final season is coming to a close. (Jan. 15)

Isle of Dogs Oscar-nominated Wes Anderson's feature film is a love letter to puppies, a tribute to Akira Kurosawa and yakuza films, and a perfectly crafted stop-motion wonder. Three years after its release, it joins Disney+. (January 15)

Studio Ghibli Documentary. Over the past decade or so, the Japanese studio has produced a series of behind-the-scenes documentaries. Two of these, "The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness" and "The Man Who Never Ends: Hayao Miyazaki," are being shown on HBO Max. (January 12)

Vintage Cartoon Network; HBO Max also welcomes torrents of older shows from its sister network, including Codename: Kids Next Door, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd n Eddy," and "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy" are available for re-watch. (Already streaming.)

Pixar Popcorn. buried in the deluge of announcements at Disney's recent Investor Day, this series of mini-shorts is one of the first of the newly announced shows to launch. Little is known about it other than that it will feature Pixar characters and a new storyline. (Disney+, January 22)
