Nintendo and Illumination are working on the second "Super Mario Bros." movie

For fans of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, 3/10 (or 3/10) is celebrated as "Mario's Day".This year, "Holiday" is extra special by the announcement from Nintendo and Illumination that they are giving the green light to the second Mario Bros. animated film

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed the first film, and Matthew Fogel, who wrote it, will return to those roles for the sequel.

Nintendo and Illumination also co-produced the franchise's first animated theater feature, Super Mario Bros. The film sold more thanま1.3 billion at the global box office, making it the 2023 highest-grossing film after Barbie 2.

In a very short release, Nintendo declined to provide details of the plot and character of the 2nd Mario movie, but said it planned to release it in theaters in 2026/4/3.

As with the first film, the Mario sequel will be produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.

In a statement, Nintendo said:
