Animated 80 Series to be Announced at Cartoon Forum in September

If you want a preview of the TV shows that European animation producers will be producing in the coming years, the Cartoon Forum is the perfect place to go.

The Cartoon Forum, Europe's largest co-production platform for animated television and new media, announced yesterday that it has selected 80 projects to be featured at its next edition, which will be held in Toulouse, France, September 13-16. The Forum has a solid track record of bringing together European producers, distributors, investors, and broadcasters; in 27 years, it has helped more than 680 animated series receive more than €2.3 billion in funding.

This year, a record 22 projects from 22 countries were selected, including, for the first time ever, an entry from Canada: Carpe Diem's "Snowsnaps. French animation companies lead the lineup with 26 projects, followed by the United Kingdom with nine projects and Ireland with eight. Ireland is also the subject of Cartoon Forum's first Country Spotlight: in addition to the eight projects, the Croissant Show will showcase Irish studios, and there will be an Irish Farewell Dinner & Party.

Four projects each from Belgium, Spain, and Germany will be featured, as well as three each from Finland and Korea. The rapid growth of children's broadcasters has created opportunities for producers from all over Europe, and projects from Poland, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Bulgaria will also be exhibited.

More than half of the projects are for children ages 6-11, 25% are pre-school programs, and 10% are for youth and adults. Notably, 50% of this year's Toulouse pitches have a cross-media component, designed to be viewed not only on TV screens, but also on cell phones, game consoles, tablets, and online.

All 80 projects can be found on the Cartoon Forum website.

Cartoon Brew will be attending Cartoon Forum for the first time this fall and will report on the event.
