Duolingo Focuses More on Animation with Acquisition of Second Studio

Duolingo, a language learning app, announced today that it has acquired Hobbes, a Detroit-based animation and motion design studio. The company uses animation to amplify game mechanics and increase “stickiness” in the use of its products.

Following are details of the Duolingo acquisition:

Design has been an integral part of Duolingo's success, especially the use of character illustrations and animation, which accelerated after Gunner joined the team. Adding the unique talents of Hobbes to the design team will accelerate the use of motion design. We are investing in the belief that a more animated product experience is more fun and entertaining and leads to better learning outcomes.
