Paramount Animation Announces Five New Original Films in Development

Last summer, Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins caused a stir in the animation industry when he said that the company would focus exclusively on IP-driven animated features because original ideas are too risky. He said at the time, “We're not going to release an expensive original animated film and just pray that audiences will come.”

His remarks were widely criticized by top industry figures, including Guillermo del Toro and Chris Miller, leading Paramount Animation president Ramsey Knight to quickly retract, saying that the studio would definitely continue to develop original ideas.

Today, Naito made good on that promise by announcing five new projects currently in development at Paramount. The studio's goal, she told Variety, is to “make really relatable, broadly diverse films that reach children and families around the world.”

The five new projects she announced include:
