First Look: 'Regular Show' Creator J.G. Quintel Goes Adult in New TBS Series 'Close Enough'

TBS has released a teaser for “Close Enough,” an animated series for adults from regular show creator J.G. Quintel.

The show is described as “a surreal comedy about a family growing up without growing old,” and will be accessible to 20-somethings transitioning into their 30s, according to the network.

Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, said in a statement in May, when the series was announced, “We are thrilled to add J.G. Quintel, one of animation's most impressive and popular voices, to our growing roster of animated series. J.G. has shot right to the heart of our demo target with 'Regular Show' and we hope he will bring a younger, more engaged audience to our network.”

“Close Enough” will be produced by Studio T, the production arm of TBS, and its sister company, Cartoon Network Studios. This is the first time that these two branches of Time Warner-owned Turner Broadcasting will produce a series together.

Quintel, who also produced “Regular Show” for Cartoon Network Studios, joins a rare group of animated series producers who have successfully made the transition from children's entertainment to prime-time programming. In the past, only a handful of creators working in children's animation have produced adult series, and vice versa.

“Close Enough” joins TBS's expanding animation slate, led by Seth MacFarlane's “American Dad.” The network is also producing “The Cops,” a buddy comedy co-produced by and starring Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks; “Tarantula,” a dark comedy about the denizens of a seedy hotel by Carson Mell (“Silicon Valley”); and independent filmmaker and comedian Independent filmmaker and comedian Olan Rogers' interstellar comedy “Final Space” and many other new series for adults are scheduled over the next year.
