Latvia to submit animated feature film “Flow” to the Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category.

The Baltic country of Latvia has decided to officially enter Gints Zilvarodis' “Flow” in the International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards. The decision was made by the Latvian Selection Committee, a panel of film industry experts established by the country's National Film Center.

The dialogue-free CG film, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, was a huge hit at the Annecy International Film Festival in June, winning more awards than any other film in competition this year (Jury Prize for Best Feature Film, Audience Award, Gunn Foundation Distribution Award, and Feature Film Original Music Award).

The $4.1 million Belgian/French/Latvian co-production is also set for North American distribution by Sideshow and Janus Films, with a theatrical release later this year. It will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Ottawa International Animated Film Festival next month.

The animation was produced by Sacre Bleu Productions (France) and Take Five (Belgium), with Zilvarodis producing at his own studio, Dream Well Studios in Latvia.
