Little Nicholas” Wins Top Award at Animation Is Film 2022

The fifth edition of Animation is Film (AIF), the Los Angeles-based animation film festival organized by Annecy, GKIDS, and Variety, is underway and this year's competition winners have been announced.

Following its Cannes premiere in the spring and Best Feature Award in Annecy in June, “Little Nicola - Happy as Can Be” won the Grand Jury Prize, AIF's highest award. [Co-directors Amandine Frédon and Benjamin Masbre have created a wonderful hand-drawn homage to French cartoonists René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sampe. By adapting their distinctive styles to animation, they not only brought to life these beloved characters, but also revealed the little-known lives of the artists who were involved in their creation.”

Nora Toomey's new Netflix feature “My Father's Dragon” won the AIF Special Jury Award after its North American premiere at the festival. The film was produced by Cartoon Saloon in Ireland and will have its world premiere on Netflix on November 11.

Armenia's 2022 Oscar nominee “Aurora's Sunrise” won this year's AIF Audience Award. [...] [...] [...] [...]
