Netflix's stop-motion project “The House” gets first images and release date

Netflix will kick off its 2022 animated film slate with “The House,” a stop-motion project that has intrigued since its announcement nearly two years ago. This three-part anthology will debut for streaming on January 14.

The film is a gothic, jet-black comedy that revolves around the titular house and its inhabitants in three different time periods, each serving as the subject of a single narrative. Each part is directed by various luminaries of the indie stop-motion world: Emma de Sueff and Mark James Roels (“This Magnificent Cake!”), Niki Lindros von Bahr (“Something to Remember”), Paloma Baeza (“Poles Apart”).

The House is produced by Nexus Studios. The characters are voiced by Claudie Blakely, Matthew Goode, Mia Goss, Mark Heap, Miranda Richardson, Josh McGuire, Stephanie Cole, Jarvis Cocker, Dizzy Rascal, Yvonne Lombard and Sven Walter, Helena Bonham-Carter, Paul Kaye, Will Sharpe, Susan Wocoma, and an all-star cast of mostly British actors.

Set in the 1800s, poor Raymond meets a mysterious benefactor. The family soon discovers that wants and desires do not always lead them where they expect them to go.

Set in the present day, a harassed real estate developer tries to make a quick sale by remodeling. But a creepy unexpected client has other plans, and the catalyst for a more personal transformation.

Set in the near future, the film depicts a house surviving a drastically altered landscape. We meet Rosa, a young proprietress who continues to live in her beloved, crumbling house and is determined to restore it to its former glory. Rosa's unrealistic vision, however, is blinded by the inevitable changes that are about to take place and, most importantly, by the fact that she has no idea what she is doing.
