'Battle Kitty' is a new Netflix series based on animators' Instagram posts

Netflix has announced a new animated children's series based on a concept that first originated as a series of posts on animator Matt Layzell's Instagram account collectively titled “The Adventures of Kitty & Orc” and entitled “Battle Kitty A new animated series for children titled “Battle Kitty” was announced.

The title character is said to be a small but feisty kitten with a pink ribbon. However, as Layzell notes in his post, Kitty has super strength, powerful intuition, and many other tools to fight off monsters.

According to Melissa Cobb, Netflix's VP of Kids and Family, the show will break the boundaries of traditional storytelling by using an innovative interactive format. While no further information on its content has been obtained, streamers claim that Battle Kitty will allow children around the world to navigate their own adventures in Kitty's vast universe. New paths and layers can be unlocked in a futuristic and medieval world.

Reisel is the first showrunner and executive producer on the project. No other details regarding collaborators or companies involved in the production of the show have been disclosed.

Prior to this project, Reisel was an animator on Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball, director of Nickelodeon's Sanjay and Craig, Cartoon Network's The Apple and the Onion, Netflix's Pinky Malinky” for Netflix.

In a statement, Raisel spoke about the message behind the show: “Netflix has given me an amazing opportunity to help change how young people see themselves. I want kids who feel small, like Kitty, the underdog who longs to have big decisions, to realize that they can stand strong, have friends, and accomplish great things.”
