Spotlight on Mexican Animation

Each year, Annecy selects the country in which the animation industry is given a spotlight on the festival and the MIFA market. This year, the honor falls on Mexico, where works and artists from the country are deeply involved in almost every part of the festival.

The decorations for this year's festival were designed in Mexican colors and themes. Jorge Gutiérrez, director of Maya and The Three and The Book of Life, will design the official poster, hold a master class and serve as a judge for VR works. Sofía E., Executive Producer and creator of Onyx EquinoxAlexander will be on the jury for feature films, and Estrella Araiza, general director of the Guadalajara International Film Festival, will be on the jury for tv and commissioned films. And, of course, Annecy's favorite and recent animated feature Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro will be on hand.

Annecy also features 9 programs dedicated to Mexican animation: Mexican Archaeology; Guadalajara School; indigenous Mexico; urban and suburban narratives; Mexican television; Mexican growth; Surrealism: poetic images; esoteric stories; Hollywood television

"We asked Mexican programmers to provide an overview of the entire historical production of this great country," said Marcello, artistic director of Annecy. Le Jean said "This will be a chance for festival participants to discover many films, some of which were screened at Annecy, some won Annecy Awards, as well as others to be screened here for the very first time.”
