2020 Daytime Emmy Awards: 'Elena of Avalor' and 'Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures' Top the Animated Category

The winners of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' (NATAS) 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards for children's, lifestyle and animated programming were announced via live streaming on Sunday.

In the animated category, the two shows with the most nominations were the big winners of the night: Disney Junior's "Elena of Avalor" and Disney Channel's "Rapunzel's Tangle Adventure." Disney Channel won a total of five awards, while Disney Junior and Netflix each won four awards; Netflix pulled off the feat of winning for four different shows.

The other two animated films to win multiple awards were Amazon Prime Video's "Batman: Hush" and Disney Channel's "Disney Mickey Mouse."

Apple TV+ was competing for the first time this year, but failed to win any of the animation-related awards: Snoopy in Space (children's short program) and Ghostwriter (main title and graphic design). Disney Junior and Disney Channel's "The Rocketeer" was the third most nominated with five nominations, but narrowly missed out.

It was a happy night for veteran lyricist Alan Menken, who won (along with Glenn Slater) for Best Original Song for "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures," putting him in the elite EGOT - Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award, and Tony Award winner Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award, and Tony Award winners. This was Menken's first Emmy award, although he did receive an honorary Primetime Emmy Award in 1990. He is the 16th person to join this club.
