Watch Trailer for Masaaki Yuasa's New Series About Aspiring Animators

Masaaki Yuasa is on a roll: since 2017, the Japanese director has released three features and two series (notably Netflix's Devilman Crybaby). Another series is on the horizon. A new trailer for "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!" has been released and can be seen (with subtitles) below.

"Eizouken! is the story of three high school girls who dream of producing their own animation. The girls form the "Visual Image Laboratory" to realize their ambition. The trailer shows director Yuasa's trademark free and playful style, and the characters enter the graphic world envisioned by the protagonist.

The series is based on the popular manga of the same name by OWA Sumito, which debuted in 2016. Yuasa directs the film at his studio Science Monkey, where he also supervises the script. Character design is by Naoyuki Asano.

Director Yuasa gained a cult following with 2004's "Mind Game"; he co-founded Science Monkey with Choi Eun-young in 2013 and returned to the feature film scene in 2017 with two films, "Lu on the Wall" and "The Night is Short, Walk away Otome." In October, a new series, "Super Shiro" will be released in Japan, and another series, "Japan Sync," will be available on Netflix next year. It's an impressive body of work.

It will premiere on NHK Sogo TV on January 5, 2020. No news yet on a North American release.
