Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared" short film to be made into series for Super Deluxe and Conaco

The web series "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared," a cult favorite in the UK, is a surreal and disturbing take on the children's series, and the TV show by Brink Industries, which produced the original short, and Conan O'Brien's production company Conaco The series is being developed as a Turner's Super Deluxe will produce the series.

The mixed media series is being developed by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling, creators of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, and Baker Terry, who wrote the short.

Although only six short films have been produced, the project has garnered considerable online support: the six original shorts produced between 2011 and 2016 have been viewed approximately 160 million times on Youtube. A new teaser announcing the series, posted below, has been viewed nearly 4.5 million times since it was posted on September 13:

CNET reports that a spec pilot for the new series has already been produced and pitched to both streaming and cable networks both streaming and cable networks.

This would not be the first time Conaco has turned a web series IP into a mainstream production. O'Brien's production company also developed Oran Rogers' Gary Space web series into the Final Space series.
