Today, 27 years after the space shuttle Challenger disaster, here is the perfect story from StoryCorps, courtesy of the Lao brothers:
On January 28, 1986, NASA's Challenger mission STS-51-L, 73 seconds after takeoff, the shuttle exploded 73 seconds after takeoff. On board was physicist Ronald E. McNair, the second African-American astronaut. But before that, he was a kid with big dreams in Lake City, South Carolina.
