Adult Swim Releases First Footage of Two New Series, "Uzumaki" and "Common Side Effects"

At last week's San Diego Comic-Con, Adult Swim unveiled sneak peeks of two highly anticipated titles: "Uzumaki" (pictured above right) and "Common Side Effects.

First up is "Uzumaki," an adaptation of Junji Ito's ultra-popular horror manga, which will premiere on Saturday, September 28 during the Toonami block at 12:30 AM, with new episodes airing weekly in Japanese with English subtitles. Both the Japanese-dubbed and English-dubbed versions will be available for streaming on Max the following day.

"Let's leave this town together," invites Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Gotoh, a high school girl born and raised in Kurozu Town. A strange whirlwind, smoke rising from the crematorium, and the residents all turn into a whirlwind. People's eyes swirl, their tongues swirl, and their bodies twist unnaturally. At SDCC, Adult Swim will be joined by Joe Bennett of Scavengers Reign, Veep, and American Dad! The show also teased a pilot episode at Annecy last month, and the first footage of the pilot was at Comic-Con last week. The six-minute pilot clip can be seen below:

The show follows Marshall and Francis, two former high school lab partners who share a secret: Marshall has discovered the world's best medicine, a mushroom that can heal almost anything They have discovered it. But there are many people trying to stop the two from spreading it to the public, including the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), big pharmaceutical companies, and international businessmen.

Mike Judge and Greg Daniels ("King of the Hill") will executive produce the half-hour series, which will be produced by Bennett's partner Green Street Pictures and Judge and Daniels' Bandera Entertainment. It is scheduled to air in early 2025.
