First look at “Barney's World,” premiering next month on Max

First announced by Mattel in early 2023, the toy company's promised CG-animated reboot of Barney's World will premiere on Monday, October 14 on the streaming Max.

A sneak peek of the first episode will debut on October 11 on Barney the Dinosaur's official Youtube channel. A teaser was released today:

This kindergarten-centric reboot will feature CG versions of the purple dinosaur character Barney, his pals Billy and Baby Bop, and his three kid best friends David, Mel, and Vivi. This is the first new series in 14 years to star these characters. The singing and dancing Dino first gained international fame with the live-action series “Barney & Friends,” which aired for 14 seasons on PBS in the United States and ended in 2010.

The new show, produced by Mattel Television Studios and Corus Entertainment's Nelvana, will have 52 11-minute episodes and promises to re-create the original music and classic Bernie songs for a new generation of viewers. No word on whether the earworm “I Love You” will make another appearance. [Josh Silverman, Mattel's chief franchise officer, said in a release:

Mattel Television Studios' goal is to bring Mattel's characters and develop and distribute episodic and feature-length content that expands on Mattel's characters and stories on linear and streaming platforms around the world. Bernie nurtures the power of love in all of us and we are excited to bring him back to fans around the world. We hope this modern revival will leave a lasting impression on our young audience and provide lessons that will positively influence them as they grow up.

The series is executive produced by Silverman and Michelle Mendelowitz for Mattel and by Athena Georgaklis, Doug Murphy, Melanie Welsh, Troy Lieb and Pam Westman for Nelvana.

“Barney's World” will premiere on Friday, October 18 on Cartoon Network in the US, Cartoonito in EMEA and APAC, and Discovery Kids on LATAM. Some episodes of the series are also available on Youtube.
